SEarch for a program called AnyDVD. It runs in the background, and lets you copy protected ones.

No, its a legit program. Made by Slysoft. Here's the offical site:SlySoft Products | Copy Movie DVDs with AnyDVD and CloneDVD
Its up to you where you chose to "buy" it from.

Its always worked for me. You have to enable it to work in the background.
If that fails, DVDShrink is good, you can take out menus you don't need, including the FBI warnings and Ad's

As mentioned, get hold of Slysoft Anydvd (It runs in the background and removes the CSS protection as well as other forms of protection from original dvd's)
What you failed to mention was whether you're trying to take a backup of a dvd9 or dvd5?
If it's a dvd9 and you want to fit it onto a dvd5 then get hold of CloneDVD by Elaborate Bytes (Elby) - It will allow you to remove trailers, unwanted material etc from the original dvd and lower the bitrate so that it fits onto a dvd5.A combination of these two programs should allow you to take a backup of any of your material...

Good luck

No - thats a Dual Layer DVD - so what's commonly called a DVD9 (as it holds about 9GB of data).

You should ignore the AnyDVD stuff - what you want to use is DVDShrink.

This will copy your protected DVD and squash it so that it fits on a standard sized DVD (DVD5 - 4.7GB).

Start here, and good luck: DVD Shrink

Sounds like it's asking for a Dual Layer DVD. If you go that route you'll need Dual Layer Media and a Dual Layer burner.

^^ As above, use DVD shrink to fit it onto 'normal' DVD media
