Default Outlook Problems - in house IS can't help me!

Here's the problem - I'll explain it in as much details as I can, and if you need any other info just ask.
  • I'm the manager of a department that uses a shared calendar as well as us each having our own individual ones.
  • I regularly need to enter appointments into the shared calendar and invite myself to them so it appears in my calendar as well. I can see it's appeared in my calendar and I'm marked on the original invite as "Accepted"
  • I then have to add other people to the original invite in the shared calendar and send updates. As promoted I "Send updates to added or deleted attendees"
  • On regular occasions (but not every single time) it changes the appointment in my calendar - without any prompting - to either Tentative - or often removes it completely.
  • When I check the tracking on the original appointment I'm still shown as "Accepted"
I'm not an IT specialist, but I'm no techie luddite and know my way around Outlook. This is driving me insane! I now have to keep a paper diary on my desk for my team to check before they commit to anything on my behalf as there is no way they can rely on my Outlook calendar.

Our IS department is now completely out of ideas and has frankly lost interest in the problem.

Has anyone else come across it - and if so - what was the solution?

Many thanks in advance for any help!

Edited to add that no one has anything other than "View" priviledges on my calendar. I locked it all down when this started happening.

Quick Q first of all - why are you using a shared calender instead of calender view across all related members of the team?

Because it's a Training Department. The shared calendar has all of the courses in and all of the delegate lists. It's where we control all the invites. We need that all in one place. There's no other information in there.

Our own calendars will have the courses we need to be involved with, plus our personal appointments.

The central calendar is visible to all - but only editable by us.

Calendar items disappear, odd - microsoft.public.outlook.calendaring | Google Groups

similar - do you delete the invites - could be one thing to check.

Hi Dave

Thanks for that - but no - I don't delete the invites. It doesn't even send me an updated anything. I only opt for it to send it to "added or deleted attendees" and as I'm neither at that point it doesn't send me anything.

When I create the initial appointment from the shared calendar and invite myself I get prompted with "Do you want to update your calendar now" so I click "yes". The appointment then goes into my calendar and I'm marked as accepted on the original invite.

Hmmm - thinking about it, maybe I should click "No" when I'm prompted and accept the invite from my inbox in the normal way. I'm guessing it shouldn't really make any difference, but with Outlook it's best not to assume anything....

Cheers!

I believe this is an issue we have, and is still ongoing ( for over a year )
One of the possibilities , there are too many
If using McAfee AV, an add-in is installed within outlook automatically.
check this by viewing from outlook,
tools>option>other>advanced options>add-in manager check for "exchange scan"

You can enable logging, on all the persons outlook profiles who have delegate access to this calendar.
This can be enabled in Outlook by selecting tools--->options--->other (tab)--->advanced options (button)--->enable logging (troubleshooting).
this will createfiles here :-
Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp named logcalbxx, where xx is an incremental number

You don't say what version of outlook you're using or whether you've updated it to the latest service pack
