I can almost taste the petrol fumes No . . . wait, don't turn on that light switch . . .
Forza Motorsport 2 - Forza Motorsport 2 Speeds Into European Retail May 2007
By: Che Chou
A few weeks ago, we committed to a May 2007 release date for North America. Now Turn 10 and Microsoft Game Studios is happy to announce that Forza Motorsport 2 will also see its European retail debut in May 2007. After some debate, we felt it was only right for Forza Motorsport 2's online community if we were to release the game on a global level simultaneously.
Now that we've come clean about our European release date, we thought it'd be most appropriate to kick off the first of our six Forza Motorsport 2 car reveal lists with none other than the much coveted European exotics. So here now are 35 models from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and Maserati -- all rides which you'll be able to customize, from engine upgrades and body kits, to paintjobs and livery designs. Plus, each one of these cars takes heartbreaking damage when you pile with reckless abandon into turn one. So without futher ado...

Well I hope the comment on this Pistonheads thread is wrong : PH: Forza 2 news
Otherwise, it sounds like it may be a bit GT5-y , i.e. overestimated what they could feasibly do. This would have tempted me to buy a 360 too, providing they've released the new rumoured cooler running 120GB black version
Will keep my eye out for reviews when the time comes.....

Well yeah I did think that too, but then thought there may also be some truth in it, and obviously having a non-disclosure whilst being employed. It'll still no doubt be better than anything else out at the time
Might turn out the be a very expensive game for me if it forces me to buy a 360 Oh to be driving the 1973 911 RS

The trailer, whilst not actual gameplay, was all generated with the graphics engine in the game, (no pre-renders). So, assuming their development team isn't lying, it should be a good indication of what we will see in the finished product

is this an arcade style game??
as i "splashed" out on a pre owned copy of PGR3 after reading messages on this BBS and to be frank, i think PGR3 is pretty crap
which i kinda suspected after playing the demo, hence the pre owned copy for £15
played for 2 hours and then had enough cash to buy the best car in the game
maybe i`m just to used to LFS, but good graphics just dont cut it for me with racing games for some reason
TDU was complete tripe as well if i`m honest.....

Car handling in TDU was much better if you turned off the dfriver aids. Great game in my opinion
I hated PGR3 though. No innovation over PGR2, it was a smaller game, and got very samey very quickly...

It's somewhere inbetween GT and PGR.
The car handling is nowhere near as harsh as GT, but nowhere near as arcadey as PGR.
The absolute best thing about Forza is car damage. Unlike GT and PGR, there are consequences for driving like and idiot. Online, this is the best console racer bar none, precisely for this reasons - People are forced to actually race.
The fact it is on proper circuit and not streets makes it all the better - Tracks are designed for racing on - Streets aren't.
THe fact there are only a handful of circuits is even better - with fewer tracks you have a chance of learning them all inside out.
Cannot wait for this game - I played the original to death.

You must have been playing a different game to all the other GT fans, GT has had the most accurate driving physics of any game I have played. I used a steering wheel and racing seat to play it which was a totally different experience to using a crappy controller.

The GTR games on the PC had a far better driving model, (as did Forza on the old xbox, although that was still pretty arcadey).

Well you are entitled to your opinion, but there are many people with the opinion the driving physics are very good and I am one of them. I also think the physics were miles better than Forza. I have both and while Forza is the better game for graphics, online rwcing etc the physics for me are better in GT3/4.

I've driven Imprezas (both my own sti and group-n rally cars), MGs, and formula fords on track, and I can quite categorically say that the handling of the cars in GT doesn't even come close to real life handling. You can do stuff in the game that just isn't possible in real life, and the lack of any form of tyre wear or damage modelling just pushes it even further into the arcade realm.
A good game it may be, (although I got bored with it within a week and now use the DFP solely for the PC and GTR) but realistic it aint

I would agree that physics model and car handling is more true in GT. However, that is not the be all and end all.
Forza, and the Colin MacCrae games took onboard the fact that what is "real" is not necessaily what you want in a game. What feels right is much more important that what is right.
To make an analogy. In PES, a player can run the length of the pitch in around 6 seconds. Could this happen in real life? Of course not. But it feels right in the context of the game - it is real as far as the player is concerned.
The same applies to driving games, physically the cars in Forza might not be accurate to the real life counter part as in GT, but, they represent a degree of accuracy whilst maintaining a general feel of being how you expect the car to drive.
PGR is more arcadey, it is easy to perform, maintain and control powerslides that would be very difficult to do in GT. But that's fine, PGR never has been trying to compete with GT in the realism stakes.
The problem with GT, is that as various iterations have arrived, the game has become less a racer, and more a collect-em-up. The actual physical racing of the cars is secondary to unlocking and buying/modifying new ones.
Forza and PGR very definitely deliberately avoid being GT clones, they are games in thier own right, quite different to polophony digitals' title.

You dont in PGR, and the damage model in PGR is entirely redundant due to it having no effect on your car at all - It is entirely cosmetic.
Forza on the other hand strikes a balance between the likes of GTR and PGR - Realism with immediate controlability.

lol ah I see you have to be a track day'er to be able to comment on the physics of the game? Sorry but I have more important things to spend my money on than tear arsing my car around a track and paying extortionate amounts of money for the privilege.
Its got nothing to do with the AI of the other cars or the lack of damage modelling in the game. Its the fact that the steering and 'feel' when the back end goes out or understeers into a corner is far more realistic than any other console driving game and how much control you get over it. No one is saying its perfect, only that it is very good for a game.

There are mistakes. The BMW M3 CSL, for instance, brakes much better on the road than it does on the screen. And there’s no way a Peugeot 106 could outdrag a Fiat Punto off the line. But other than this, I’m struggling: they’ve even managed to accurately reflect the differences between a Mercedes SL 600 and the Mercedes SL 55, which is hard enough to do in real life.
There’s more, too. If you take a banked curve in the Bentley Le Mans car flat out, you’ll be fine. If you back off, even a little bit, you lose the aerodynamic grip and end up spinning.
That’s how it is. This game would only be more real if a big spike shot out of the screen and skewered your head every time you crashed
