Default What's the best AV software out there these days?

Since I got sick of hooky OS's and software I've bit the bullet and bought a legit one. So, installing Vista tonight but the question is what is the best anti-virus software out there at the moment, without being overly resource hungry. Preferably free, but not necessary, can spare a few quid for security. Will Vista's firewall be enough? Do I need anything else on top of AV software? What's best and how much?

There is no best, it's what keeps you feeling secure that counts.

Personally, the virus labs and engines of McAfee and Kaspersky keep me happy. They've delivered consistently great results for over a decade.

Agreed, thats' what I'm using at the moment (works well on Vista). I've seen it pick up a few things that McAfee has missed as well

Another thumbs up for NOD32 here.

Used with this guide: Extra settings for Nod32 v2.7 - revised 22-12-2006 - Page 2 - Wilders Security Forums it works a treat.

PCPro (whom I place quite a lot of trust in, having been reading their mag for years and used a lot of their A-Listed stuff) have Zone Alarm Internet Security 7 as their A-Listed AV, and F-Secure Internet Security 2007 as their second recommendation.

Personally, I use Norton AV and Firewall (2005) Along with Spybot and Spywareblaster, and I have yet to get any nasties that one of them didn't catch.

Just started using kaspersky after using norton and also occasionally AVG, carried out a recent scan with both norton and avg with nothing found, was somewhat surprised to find an email worm and two trojans on my first deep scan with this Kaspersky one !!
