Is there any way of removing duplicate NTFS permissions on a set of files and folders

I have some 3,000 folders that appear to have duplicate NTFS permissions, and want to know if there is an easy way of doing it (utility, script etc) than having to manually go into each folder and remove the permisssions by hand

Not sure what you mean by duplicate but cacls or xcacls from MS will let you script it easily.

Duplicate as in

the same user is listed twice in the NTFS permissions box (windows 2003 DC)

eg:

user@domain.com
user@domain.com
Domain\Group
Domain\Group

I need to remove all the duplicates

They were brought in by using Subinacl from two different domains, and ended up with duplicates on all users home directories

I use a great util called fileacl - bloody marvellous piece of code http://www.gbordier.com/gbtools/fileacl.htm

VERY useful in resetting ALL the inherited perms in a HUGE folder tree

Thanks Kieran, I'll take a look at it as it's Thursday and I am now back on site

I don't want to reset any permissions though, I only need to remove the duplicates
