Default Couple of Q's about a wired router.

Hi

I am looking to get a router because we have a home PC & I often work at home on my laptop & both need often to be connected to the Internet (me for work, home PC for kids)
It has to be wired rather than wireless (because we have a wireless cctv system & it will interfere (so I am told))
We have rather a big house, so the router will be in my office and a wire will need to go to the home PC. Can this wire go partly outdoors? Rather than feed it through the house (& several rooms) its far easier to run it from my office, outside, and into the kids room.

Any thoughts?
