Anyone know if it's okay ?

Have bought a new house with a monitored burglar alarm hardwired to the telephone. How am I supposed to connect a microfilter when the ADSL is switched on ?

depends on where it is hardwired to - if its an extension, it depends on whether it has been taken back to the master socket and either wired direct or via a plug, if its via a plug the the filter can go there. Otherwise it might be better to replace the master socket with a master socket and filter (NT5 faceplate) if the adsl router is near the master socket !

its not 'redcare' style monitoring is it?

I don't think it's an active system like "redcare".

I think it just makes a phone call if the alarm is activated.

I guess worst case I can install ADSL and then get the alarm tested to see if there is any interference on the line and install a microfilter as required.

call the alarm company or maker some have filtered stu,s these are fitted inside the alarm panel on the line if you have an sssfp fitted (broadband face plate) you should be ok

The alarm box is next to the BT master socket, in the cupboard where I want to place my wireless broadband router.

So it seems in theory I can replace the faceplate on the master socket with a filtered version, plug in my router and not need microfilters for the alarm or any extension sockets. Great !!

just check on the bt box that the alarm company have wired into the extension side of the box

Your alarm system will be more than happy on a broadband line, it's your broadband that won't work. We come across more and more of this in the Alarm industry
The alarm has to be hardwired into the phone socket otherwise your system will not comply with alarm regs if it's police linked.
The easiest fix we use it we fit a socket on the end of the phone line in the alarm panel, plug a filter into that and then plug into the filter for the alarm line. As it's all inside the control panel your ok.
If its a Redcare line none of this matters as Redcare is compatible with Broadband and you won't need any filters for the alarm.

Cheers for that ! Does that mean if left unfiltered the alarm will only crash the broadband when it tries to dial out ie. in an alarm condition ?

Not in all cases mate, In most cases your Broadband will just not work, your adsl modem will just sit flashing at you as it's unable to connect. We have had some cases where customers have had broadband fitted and everything works perfectly with no filters on the alarm or some just cause the Broadband to drop out when the alarm signals. But most if the alarm is left unfiltered will just stop your broadband from working.
