Default Computer won't switch off!

When shutting down computer, it goes to turn off power then straight away turns back on, same thing happens even if you hold the power button in.

Have tried another power button switch but still the same.

Do you think that the problem is going to be power supply of motherboard related?

Any advise would be gratefully received!

Cheers

i had this recently and it was to do with incomplete installations.

before you close down look in the task manager to see what is running - anything you can';t readily identify, kill it.

the other obvious place is the registry in the active install area of HKLM\software\microsoft\...

It was doing this so have put a clean install of XP to see if it has any effect but still does the same.

Tricky one to explain what it does but, as soon a power switches off about 1 mili second later it power straight back up again.

on a clean XP install, it's more likely to be hardware.

Have you reset the BIOS?

Is unplugging it an option? Sounds silly but I found that even after a powerdown on my desktop at home the USB ports were still powered!

Thanks very much for the suggestions, i'll try reseting the bios i think next see if that makes any difference.

I'll have a check that everything else is plugged in correctly, but havent changed any hardware for a while, failing that looks like its a new power supply or board.
