Question NTL and/or Mac issues

For the last couple of weeks things have started to go a bit odd on my Mac.

It started where I couldn't get to Google and a few other sites, amazon, youtube.
I also couldn't collect email using 'Mail' from a POP box based in the US.
Other POP boxes worked from the UK.

I'm on NTL and I eventually called up their friendly local chap in Bombay or whereever it was. Anyway he gave me another Proxy server address to use and I can get to most sites except for some https:// sites.
The place that my POP box lives has a web control which I can't get to. My PC will get to it (GFs laptop and crappy old desktop) and one uses the Macs netconnection to get out on the internet and the other wifi straight to the router so it doesn't seem to be NTLs fault.

Both PC machines can get to this control panel but the Mac reports
"Safari can’t connect to the server.
Safari can’t open the page “https://ac.mediatemple.net/” because it could not connect to the server “ac.mediatemple.net”."

Still can't get to ebuyer.com when the others can...
Mac is using NTLs DNS servers now.

Also MSN lasts for about 30 seconds before kicking me off. Skype is fine though.

It surely can't be NTL DNS or proxy servers as if it was, the PCs wouldn't work either...

Anyone any ideas? Its driving me nuts!

So what were you running which was stopping it? PM me if you like.

Don't mean to be rude, but is there a specific reason you're using MSN rather than Adium? I only ask as I used to use MSN but switched over to Adium as it'll manage my MSN and iChat/AIM accounts. As the Mac MSN client is very poor compared to the PC version I didn't see much of a loss. OK, so Adium does not handle voice or video chats, but if that's needed then I just fire up iChat.
