Exclamation

Pete,

it sounds as if you have a motherboard virus

It is brand new and not even Norton or IBM know about it.

Microsoft say that the only solution is to turn off your PC and never use it again!!!

You have been warned!

Normally if the battery is going the system time will be out at startup, as it is not keeping time properly. Check that the next time you shutdown overnight and start in the morning. If it is 5-10 mins out, then your battery needs replaced.

Pete, did you not fit a BleepLink? A row of flashing LEDS on top of your computer that would have let you know all about the beeps before they happen.

He'd be better off with a set of beep-cans though wouldn't he?

Pete,

you were told by Microsoft "to turn off your PC and never use it again!!!"

You have now gone and infected my PC, which has also started bleeping.

Please do as you are told and shutdown immediately!

But surely mice squeek rather than beep.

Maybe its an MS mouse, they never do what you expect them to.

Probably needs an upgrade or something.

Sounds like one of the cooling fans is either full of fluff and the rpm has slowed down, or on it's way out due to the fan bearings. Maybe worth taking the cover off and vacuuming out the dust.

I hoovered it out a month ago when I added extra memory.

It seems to bleep when I carry out certain commands - like opening an e-mail for example ...... but the things could be random (would it do it in response to my pop-up blocker?) just a thought?

Turn off ALL sounds - Control Panel>SoundsSpeech&AudioDevices>Sounds&AudioDevice s>Sounds Tab>Select NoSounds in the Sound scheme then click apply/ok.

If it still beeps at you (re-check the above 1st to make sure the settings haven't been un-done somehow) then there's a hardware issue. 1st try replacing the battery on the motherboard.
