Default Can't boot up laptop Help!

I've got a Toshiba laptop which has been fine but now doesn't boot up.
When you press the power button it shows the Toshiba logo and an option to press F12 to select boot menu.... and that's it, it won't do anything else.

Is there any way i can get the laptop to boot up, even in safe mode?

I need to retrieve important spreadsheets and i'll be right pissed off if i have to format the bleedin' thing.

Help!!

Bart's Preinstalled Environment (BartPE) bootable live windows CD/DVD

That will produce a windows based boot disk (you need a Windows CD though to make it)

Boot from BartPE awith a USB Flash drive/ext hard drive/network attached and you should be able to retrieve files.

as long as your HDD isn't dead

Can't get in to bios.
When i switch on the computer, all i get is the Toshiba logo with the option to go to boot device menu (F12) but pressing any button makes no difference.
Even leaving the laptop for sometime doesn't make any difference either, it stays with the Toshiba logo.

Any help appreciated!!
The only other odd thing that happened recently (probably unrelated) was that i lost sound output from the laptop. No conflicts found and all appeared to be well according to the computer but i couldn't play any sounds.

As you can gather, computers aren't my forte....

Tosh's tend to fail to boot if the keyboard is pooched.

Try this:

Unplug the mains

Remove the battery

Physically take apart the laptop & unplug the built in keyboard (usually clips & one ot two screws on the top)

Plug in a normal keyboard in the back.

Leaving battery out plug into mains

Power up

Got a call to say the laptop had now booted up as normal, so relayed over the phone how to back up the files i needed onto the other PC. Whew!!

Got home and checked if there was anything else i needed to back up and all was fine but i noticed on the taskbar that the battery icon was showing. If you hover over the icon it tells you how much battery power remains, but it displayed "unknown" and no % remaining.
Odd.., the other thing is that the laptop was plugged into mains at this point (normally a plug icon is seen when this is used), so battery icon isn't normally shown. The LED on the front of the laptop was indicating orange (charging battery).

I restarted the laptop (on mains) but same thing happened as this morning, pc froze on Toshiba logo.
I removed the battery and the laptop started up as normal?

Can the battery have this effect on a pc? Never seen this before.
