Default PC Build.

Hi everyone, what are your opinions on the following PC system? The system will be manily be being used for office applications, surfing the web, e-mail, I will not be using it as a tv tuner or a dvd player, but I may just use it for the odd PC game. Any recommendations/changes/upgrades/downgrades will be welcomed, or of course if anyone thinks I can get a better deal elsewhere please let me know. By the way this system is from Mesh computers.

Well lasitivity if there is such a word or "longevity" as well as the flexibility of such a system would you not agree? Please also feel free to suggest any changes even if these downgrade the system to something you feel may well fit my requirements better.

Thanks Mike.N

The change I'd make would be to go for 2GB of RAM rather than just the one. It made a enough difference to notice it when I upgraded my PC.

It will probably be even more important if you are intending upgrading to Vista when the upgrade is released.

Edit to add: I'd drop the floppy drive, nothing seems to need them anymore.

John.

They want an additional £100 to take the memory upto 2048MB I think I can source this cheaper as an aftermarket addition.

As for the floppy drive it has been a couple of years since I sold my last computer but before selling I transferred all of my documents to floppy disk so these need putting back on the PC, but I suppose I could always use the works computer to transfer the info onto a portable usb memory stick and that would save me all of £10 for the floppy drive.

Granted yes, but I was trying to keep the build and get supplied to me a sub £1000 PC whilst trying to buy to the best of my budget and requirements - I guess I should of mentioned this in my original post - DOH!

I could move the goalposts all day long if I had the money, but I am no Bill Gates I am afraid!!

Thanks for your input anyhow.

Nice setup but I would upgrade the memory to 2gb of 800mhz corsair to complement the setup that should be more than enough.

also what make PSU is it

no need for the core 2 6700 as if you want more just overclock the 6600 to 3 ghz with no extra stress on the system - but stock speed is bloody fast - I would also get an artic freezer pro 7 as its very quiet the stock fan hums a bit.

just my 2p`s worth

Hi there,

Thanks for your comments, looks like 2GB of memory is the way forward then (Two people have recommended this so far), as for the PSU all the information on the website is as follows:

Aluminium ATX Midi Tower + 550W PSU - Black
The MESH X-treme Gamers case is constructed with an aluminium alloy that can conduct heat 3 times faster than steel! What does this mean ? Well, high-end CPUs, Graphics Cards and Hard Drives will all benefit from the greatly reduced operating temperature! This same aluminium alloy also reduces the overall weight of the case by 34%! (in comparison to casings made of steel) and with a removable motherboard tray and casing thumbscrews, any installation will be made a breeze!

Put simply, this case has style, performance and usability! A must have for any top performance PC.

Product Specifications
Width (225mm); Depth (540mm); Height (463mm); Weight (10Kg)
Chassis Colour (Black or Silver); PSU (550W)
Visible 5.25 (4); Visible 3.5 (2); Internal 3.5 (4)
Top Connectors (USB 2.0 x 2; MIC x 1; SPK x 1; Firewire x 1)
1 x 120mm blue light fan at the front

Lower the system internal temperature: the MESH X-treme Gamers Case is made of aluminum alloy which can conduct heat 3 times faster than steel. Greatly reduced operating temperatures for high-speed CPU, high-end VGA card and high-RPM hard drives.
Light Weight: Lightweight aluminum alloy greatly reduces its weight (34% in comparison to casings made of steel).
Easy installation: Removable Motherboard tray and mechanical design makes it easy to mount/remove your devices. Use thumbscrews for easy removal of side panel.
User Friendly: stylish top I/O panel provides easy access and flexibility.
Wonderful ventilation design: 120mm cooling fan space at front and rear and optional space on top. Airflow holes in the front and side panel for the better heat dissipation.
Particular treatment on appearance: chassis is enriched by a series of surface process such as hairline, anodizing, chemical polish.
Longer lasting: Using 2mm thickness as a solid constructer makes the chassis durable and sturdy
Safety assembly: 100% edge bending to avoid scratches

......But as you will see no manufacturer!!! Do you think this is very important? Should I just drop them a mail and find out first before ordering the system then run it past fellow scoobynet members?

I'll see what the fan is like when I get the thing I think and go from there.

Thanks again

Mike.N
