Unhappy Linux newbie... - well trying to be :) can't load software

Hi I've downloaded Ubuntu Linux & made my iso CD...

It won't load from either CD drive.

The error message is as follows... "isolinux: Disk error 32, AX = 4280 drive 9F"

Does this actually mean anything to anybody? - I did a search and found a guy posting the same problem - but no answers

Any other advice appreciated for my foray into free software I found OpenOffice & the Linux edition which inspired me

Cheers

Mick

Have a peek here

It sounds as thought it might be a bad download/CD/burn. Certainly double check the checksum on the downloaded file against what is usually posted on the download site, if they don't match, download it again.

If you have a CD-RW handy then try burning it again, maybe at a slower speed, and then see if it works. If not, download the image again, erase the CD-RW, then burn the new image and see if that makes any difference.

bad iso ... are you downloading the livecd ? ( also does install )

if you are struggling pm me with an address and I'll bung one in the post.

Can't let the enthusiasm wane ...

Ubuntu is about as good a distro for the home user as I have seen...have been running it for a while on the 'main' computer.

cheers

You could try this instead if you're a newbie. Get the fedora core 6 image and off you go
