Hello

I've had my xbox for 3 years now and it has been chipped, moved around and the hard drive continually replaced with bigger ones and it is still going strong.

Xboxes or 360's... ?

Xboxes - 1 original launch box and 1 newer model ( both with bigger drives and French Fried ) both still going strong, and that's with my 3 year old abusing them...

360 - Original launch box still going strong

Nope. You get a reconditioned unit with no extension to the warranty.

i'm still on my first but only had it a few months now, starting to think I should of taken out the extended warranty, but @ £60 for 2 years thought it was a little steap.. I can't get it now either because you have to send the money of 10 days after purchase so to late now

I think he is just incredibly unlucky - I seem to remember him literally opening a returned one out the box, powering it up and getting red lights straight off the bat

I think the heat thing is a bit of a random issue - I have my 360 sitting on top of my Sky+ box, which in turn is sitting on top of a plasma tuner, and next to another stack with a DVD player, an enourmous Amp, with an original Xbox on top - and never had a problem.

Obviously it's good to keep things cool - especially in things like capacitors (they will roughly double thier life for every 10 degree C drop in temp, up to point.) But in everyday use - you shouldn't see a problem.

did you send it off before the 10 days? I'm thinking I might send mine (3 months old) and see if I can blag it.. do you need to show prof of purchase when you send it away for repairs? how do MS know how old your xbox is..

No, I didn't. Mines nearly out of warranty (bought Nov 2005). Can't see why it should matter though even though they mention the 10 days. No different to an extended car warranty. Its not been messed with, so makes no odds in my eyes. Will wait to see if they accept it
