I heard that your ***** will fall off if you did this. I'd steer clear.

Lets face it, its just plain dumb. Its a cracking (excuse pun) console with massive future development support from MS. If you decide to cheat the system, you'll miss out on all the future goodness to come your way. If you want to use it online, and you will at some point with all the new features heading its way, you'll be found out and punished one way or another.

I believe you can download something to flash the firmware on the drive to play that back-up copy of the game you bought. But not heard of anyone doing this as most 360's are under warranty.

I've not heard that before. I know a few people who have updated the firmware on their 360's and they have all also downloaded updates from XboxLive without any problems at all.

What's it got to do with taxes? Do you think that game marketing and development is free?

Don't care TBH if the games were a little more sensibly priced then I would buy originals but until then I'll stick to the wonderful firmware I flashed onto my Hitachi drive. Which incidentaly is still working a treat on Live even after the massive update. As fast as Microsoft try to put a stop to it the hackers will crack it. A prime example is the PSP firmware!

No excuse. You can rent games these days and even at £40 (which is what you can get most games for) it works out at good value if you consider the average game would be minimum of 10 hours to complete

Have to say, the 360 games generally are worth the money, just so lavish and detailed, dont want to jeopordize further MS development by getting it chipped to get loads of games that prob wont work anyway and I wont play.

Also, it helps working for a games retailer, got TDU for 32 quid delivered !

Its funny how much I have warmed to MS due to the Xbox and the 360.

calling Jack Clark

<sits back with some popcorn>

I used to have a chipped Xbox with plenty of backup games. My whole outlook has changed since getting the 360, as the product is actually worth the rrp (or whatever you pay @ play.com etc)
What grinds people into using the backups etc is when they don't feel they're getting their money's worth. Again, look at the PSP (let's face it, it's overly expensive sh1te) and of course, the whole DVD issue.
The PS1/2 was/is the same, with so many poor products available, it's only to be expected that this attitude (albeit illegal) will appear.

The 360 seems to be a little bit different (and to a lesser extend, Mac software compared to PC) - the product is good. Micro$haft have actually got it right this time Yes, a few hardware development issues, but they've addressed it very quickly....

But, back to the topic, so basically, you're too pikey or cheap to pay for legit games then...........

I was in the same boat as you with the xbox and I completely agree with what you say about the 360.

How do you think the consoles development and manufacturing costs are funded, goodwill?

to further comment on the price of games now. Most online stores have 360 games down to 37.99 and if you order the multi-region games from play-asia you benifit from the great exchange rate , meaning 360 games for 21 of your pounds.

I chipped my original Xbox so I can use Xbox media centre. Chipping/flashing the 360 is for no other reason than playing copied games. so it's a pikey trick IMHO

Second hand? No thanks. Would happily buy new at sensible prices.

Do you not think lower priced games that sold at higher volumes would not see the same or higher returns
