Good/ cheap printer?
I'm looking to buy a good/ cheap printer which i'll be using not very often to print A4 size photos and a few album sized photos as well as A4 sized docs.
I don't want to buy a cheap printer and have to pay a fortune for cartridges though
I've been using an Epsom C42ux for the last couple of years but it now leaves smudges so i think it's time to change?
i've seen a Canon ip4300 in pcw for £60 which looks ideal (non exposed so dust wont be a problem), compact, cheap and a descent make
anyone else use 1 of these?

I've just replaced my 3rd Epson printer an R220 with a Canon ip4300 and the Canon is bigger a bit slow for the first page the quality does seem better. Also the Epsons have a tendancy for the print heads to clog if they are not used on a very regular basis hence my change away from Epson.
The iP3300 is also excellent and well worth a look too

Oh its a proper photo quality print, very impressive, really is. The smaller brother is ip3300 is similar quality too. Girl at work did a photoshoot and the guys from Canon printed it out in the office for her whilst he was in. Really impressive !

I'd offer to help but we are sold out too , they ahve been flying out the door as they are such a good printer. It comes with all the inks and many of them have a 5 pack of printeable Maxell CDs in the box but no USB lead is included.

Colour print Newbie here
1) What paper would I need for A4 piccies and how much would it cost?
2) How many A4s would I get, roughly, out of a cartridge?
Trying to compare with putting a piccie on a disc and getting local shop to run off a print which is a pain but quite cheap.
Thanks d

David you can use whatever paper you want the heavier coated paper is generally better for photographic work but the price varies and certain papers suit certain printers better.
Cost per page is dependant on what you are printing and the ink coverage so its a hard one to work out how long a cartidge will last.

OK Allan, Thanks for taking the time to reply. Bit of a daft "how long is a bit of string?" question I suppose
As for the 2nd point - mostly soft **** and leather gear

well i ordered the printer from Amazon with free delivery (as it's over £50)
David - if you keep an eye out at pcw they sometimes do a 2 for 1 offer on photo paper, i bought 100 sheets of A4 Kodak paper for £9.99 a while back

Must admit the Amazon deal is very good not sure what the technical support is going to be like though.
If you want to get an idea of typical prints have a look here for yield figures
Canon Europe - yieldfinder [europe]
