BT Broadband - what a crock of s**t!!
Having loads of problems with BT broadband at the moment.
basically i cant get on it.
I have rung technical support and they are friggin useless. Do they have English speaking Technical Support BTW??
They said my line is OK.
Now i'm not sure if it is my filters or my Modem. I've not changed anything BTW.
shoudl i ask for a new Modem and a couple of Filters?
Any help from you IT experts greatly appreciated.
Cheers
edited to add, i have run my virus software and spyware and it has shown nothing.

Keep on at them Carl, theres no point in you paying for broadband that you cannot even use
As you say above, get a new modem sent and a filter or two, just in case

have you got a standard modem or the one with router built (tell us the model number)
Ethernet connection or usb.
Is the dsl light on the modem on permanent or blinking.
I would gather that when you phoned them they got you to check what ip address youre getting on the pc??
if you think its from the pc side a system roll back (system restore) is what I would sugest without looking

Chief,
Try connecting your ADSL modem into the hidden test socket. It's the socket that has two screws on the front with what looks like a half plate, i.e. split across the width of the socket.
Undo the screws, remove the front and you'll see a hidden phone socket behind it. Plug your filter into that rather than the usual visible socket and see if it makes a difference.

I'm having exactly the same problems as The Chief and I've tried all of the above suggestions!
At the moment BT are monitoring my line again but for whatever reason the line doesn't want to stay up for the 3 days they require it to!

Its the BT Voyager 105 (i think) it has three lights. The first one stays on.
the second just blinks constantly and the third does not illuminate at all.

My sister and bro-in-law recently had a similar problem. The DSL light on the router would just continue to flash (ie not bringing the line up). They weren't getting anywhere with BT support so I went and had a look.
Spoke to BT and they said that they'd checked the line and couldn't find a problem. So I basically went round the house and unplugged everything from the phone sockets and just left the router plugged in throught the micro filter.
Came up straight away. Turned out that they'd recently had their Sky upgraded and the enginner had fitted a new box in the main bedroom..... no filter on it
Maybe something like this? I'd try it again with everything else unplugged incl phones

I had this with wanadoo when it changed to orange - all was fine for 3 years then once it changed to orange I couldnt get on - phone call after phone call - line test after line test - still nothing - 5 weeks passed then I told them to stuff it - I went onto tiscali and bingo works a treat.
only down side was - was while I had no broadband I used dial up for the 5 weeks at a cost of 1p per minute - it cost me £70 in the end - never knew I spent that much time on the net

I have BT Broadband and this site.... Namesco BroadbandMax ADSL Broadband Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL Broadband connection speed is reporting that I am at 6363kbps
I find BT's own speedchecker is full of $h1t
EDIT - I see BT have improved their speedtest since I last used it, at least it's reporting better now.... 6008kbps

D16GER, at least you can use the new speedtest from BT! Everytime I try to it always comes back with an error message or says that it is too busy! I've not once been able to get a reading from that site.

ive had problems and it was a viruse/highjacker had alter my connection some so it was trying to dial up using the modem*(6)
1)if you have xp try using the system restore to a point/date that you last used your broadband ok
2)down power everthing and restart from scratch
3)run a spyware and virus scan
4)make sure every item is disconnected from your line..dont forget your burglar alarm if connected(will need a filter)
5)try the bt broadband help icon it will test your line
*6)Start....settings.....control panel.....internet options......connections.....never dial should be ticked
if you call BT out and its any of the above you will be charged. The engineer will only test the line and to prove its ok.
Have a look in your control panel.
good luck

i used some adsl guide
downloading from my own website, downloading from somebody else's website, and streaming a **** film
i have never used BT`s speed checker, the BT service page says they are working on the service from 4pm yesterday until 6pm friday, and that some users may have problems, as i quoted above.
