Nah that's not excessive I've got two G4 towers, one G3 iMac, G4 iBook, Intel iMac, and a generic self-built PC server. Each of the Macs has at least two different versions of the Mac OS installed, and where possibly it'll be 9.2.2, 10.2.8, 10.3.9, 10.4.7 and 10.4.8. One of the G4's is a server so it's got Appleshare IP or Mac OS X Server running too.
The PC runs Windows 2000 Server, 2000 Server + AD, 2003 Server, 2003 Server + AD, Novell Netware 6.5 and SLES 9 with netatalk 2.0.3, and windows XP SP2.
I do have Parallels running on the Intel iMac to emulate all of the above servers, bar Netware, as it does no yet support this.
When I was in the UK office I also had a an SE, SE30, LC475, Centris 610, Quadra 950, Prototype PowerMac, Quadra 850, and I'm sure a couple of others I can't recall, running OS versions 7.5.3 thru 9.2.2 (or the latest that could be run on the machine).
Somewhere around here I've got the infamous Gorillas in the Disc CD which has a very fine collection of OS'es on it, going back to at least Finder 1.0

No I don't play Counterstrike, though I'm fairly sure it'd run under bootcamp on an Intel based mac, if not then you could use the CrossOver for Mac beta to run CS. Have a look here for a video of this. Looks like he's running it on a MacBook, not sure if it's a Pro or not though. Pretty sure that a Mac Pro would run it very well, plus CrossOver is a beta at the moment, and it's not utilizing the whole Mac, whereas BootCamp would, so BC might be a better bet for gaming.

It's about the only game I play on my PC but I play it a lot, I will investigate further into getting it running properly under bootcamp, although that would mean I need a license for Windows anyway, negating the need for Mac OS.
I am surprised that one of the most popular online FPS games hasn't been ported over to the Mac or Linux, especially since the server side has been ported over to Linux already.

Ported quite badly actually although it does work, they even still use the Win32 API/DLL names. The problem with writing games (at least for Linux) is that the hardware vendors couldn't really care less and don't give out technical specifications of their hardware, I'm thinking about video cards obviously.

it is a shame that the mac wont do it (well not well yet), so until it does, the PC is there for CS and also for running vista and generally having a good laugh at how ****e it is compared to OSX

no need. if you PC has a dual DVI card in it, then fine
if not and it is vga and dvi, then you can still do it, though the second monitor will not be true dvi end to end.
if video card has only one output, then think about either replacing card or adding a second one

My other studio system (based around a G5) is dual-screen. Essential when working with music production.
I keep the main arrange page open on the left and all the plugins/sample editors/mixers open on the right one. Kinda really need a 3rd monitor
apologies about the cr@p piccy
