Default Convince me Xbox 360

Im thinking of getting one of these badboys.

A few questions

Do they look good on a CRT TV. I have a 100HZ Philips that cost me an arm and a leg 3 years ago.

I have heard that they are bringing a 100gb hard drive version out soon? True/False?

Will they bring the Xbox 360 have the HD-DVD installed inside the console anytime soon?

Im into 1st person shooters like medal of honour, any good ones out?

I also liked ww2 combat flight sims on mt PC a few years ago but I have not seen anything out for a while, any available on the 360?

Sorry for all the questions folks but the PS3 is delayed too long and will be too expensive at the start, I just need convincing to get a 360!

That all depends on the tv. You may have to run it in low definition rather than hi-def, but at least you should be able to run it in 60hz

I have heard that they are bringing a 100gb hard drive version out soon? True/False?
That's news to me.

No. Not that you'll need it if you have a 3 year old crt

Im into 1st person shooters like medal of honour, any good ones out?
Yes. At the moment...

Call of Duty 2
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (bit more stragegy based)

Coming in the next 2 months...

Call of Duty 3
Gears of War
Brothers in Arms - Hells Highway

I also liked ww2 combat flight sims on mt PC a few years ago but I have not seen anything out for a while, any available on the 360?
Blazing Angels. A bit more arcadey than the pc flight sims, but good fun.

It will look terrible on the CRT, I had to run it in low-def on my plasma at first until I got the HD cables a month later and it was not nice. For example a lot of text doesn't seem to come out properly, particularly if it is very small (in some cases completely unreadable)

It;s ok on a CRT - it's just some games are optimised for HD - Dead rising being an example, the text is so small on SD as to be unreadable. Also King King was so dark on SD as to be unplayable. It's not a huge problem though - most games are fine.

Couldn't read the text on a CRT in Dead Rising, much too small (or maybe I'm going blind ).
Test Drive looks very ordinary on a CRT/low res as well. Looks a heap better in HD.
Iain has answered all your other questions.
As for whether you should buy one, just check and see if it has games that you want to play available for it.
I love mine, had it since launch (and still on the original one as well!). I mainly play driving games and 3rd person games (Splinter Cell, Dead Rising etc). I feel FPS games are best left to mouse & keyboard).

Pedant. In both games you can swap the view between first and 3rd person. I played all the way through COD2 in 1st person...

Indeed. I quite enjoyed it, (although it did get frustrating on the later levels).

I said Gears of War is 3rd person, not CoD2 .

Must admit - I played through CoD2 on PC - i didn't even know there was a 3rd person option in CoD2 360.

Oops, sorry

Yep, click the right stick (I think). It was a while ago I played it though so I might be mixing it up with something else

Gears of war and COD3 do look as though they're going to be pretty stonkingly good though, whatever view they're in...

run the CRT at 720p (1280x720) that is then high def. you need a VGA cable to connect you pc monitor to the xbox. the vga cable pack includes a female to female gender bender if your monitor doesn't have a detachable vga cable.

the vga cable also comes with audio cables so ou can connect it into your stereo or whatever to get the sound out.

the writing on dead rising looks fine on a CRT in hi def, if you set you xbox to output 720dp instead of leaving it at the standard TV settings

Yup, looking forward to Gears Of War - Not entirely convinced by CoD3, it's not being done by infinity ward. Will wait and see.

Lost Planet is what I am really waiting for - I have played the E3 demo to death.

All fine - if your set is HD. A 3year old 100Hz CRT TV won't be.

Yup - its the best connection you are going to get on a CRT - assuming your TV doesn't have component input. In which case, get the Component leads and run it at 480p

Is component 3 different coloured leads (red white and yellow).

AFAIK It has #

2 RGB scart socket 1 normal.
1 S-Video i/p
3 different coloured leads i/p (red white and yellow)

Where is the best places to get these from?

No, that's composite. The red and white are audio, and the yellow is video. Avoid it if possible, (the picture quality will be naff).

Component video will have connectors. 3 for the video (red, green and blue), and two for the audio (red and white).

You might want to try one of these...

Gameplay » Xbox 360 » Gameplay - Xbox 360 Scart and S-Video Cable - FREE UK Delivery

and connect it via the svideo input instead of scart or composite. You'll probably get a better picture.

Why? That's hd as well, so the same problem will exist where tv connection is concerned, and there's no decent games appearing for it at release

No it's not. GT HD is slated for release at launch. It's basically just the old GT4 with hi-def graphics. GT5 isn't expected before the end of next year...

That is how I used to connect my PS2. Is this a better way to connect than RGB scart?
