Disabled? Where is it saying that? On screen (take a screenshot) or in a log?

Is the machine being controlled via workgroup manager's settings? I know you can restrict certain things on a per machine basis in it, and I think what applications can be run is one of those things.

Can create new users fine but that doesn't help.

Here's the first problem

And the next bit saying its been disabled.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Like I said it was working perfectly and I have not changed anything. It just stopped behaving itself.

just a wild stab in the dark, but I am guessing that itunes thinks the names for your hard disks is very silly and refuses to install on them

only kidding

since you still have all the music in the itunes folder, I suggest you lose everything else in the folder, all the xml files and certainly all the preferences. make sure you delete all the prefs from both libraries as well, core library and the user library.
That way you only have the music, nothing else. Then move the itunes folder somewhere else.
remember that tiunes interacts with quicktime 7, so if you dont have the pro version, lose all your prefs for that as well.
Download latest installer again.
Make sure you have full read and write access on the main startup disk and reinstall.
Then see if you can get it working and reimport your tunes, or point it to your library via the advanced settings in tunes.

see if that helps
worth a go

tony, switching to a new user does the same thing.

yeah i know, i was just trying to get all prefs deleted in all libraries and start from fresh for him...making a new user does not affect the core library and all associated itunes prefs

yup, repair disk permissions may help, try that or download cocktail x and run the pilot.

Go into /Library/Receipts/ and locate any recipt files for iTunes and delete them, then try the reinstall again. I've got two recipt files in therre for iTunes; iTunes.pkg (version 4.8.0) and iTunesX.pkg (version 6.0.5), it's possible that it might be thinking 6.0.5 is already installed and won't allow you to install again.

yeah forgot about that one, if i remember rightly, the last itunes update cocked up your ability to disk permissions repair..
of course I was gonna post that little gem any minute

Got it working by repairing the permissions and junking every single itunes related file bar the music library and reinstallation it all over again. The installer was obviously seeing a component of the install packages and thinking the whole lot was installed already !

Looking at the crash logs via console, looks like something went a bit crazy !
