Question Wireless Router Help - not seeing the phone line

I've got a Belkin router and when I connect it into the phone line and computer, the "phone" LED flashes which according to the manual means that the router is negotiating with the ADSL line.

I have installed all the filters and use BT Broadband.

Anyone have any ideas where to start trouble shooting before I start calling premium rate help lines? The Belkin website wasn't much help.

Thanks in advance.

Hello

Have you gone to the administration page of the router and typed in all your login details for ADSL? On that page you will also see the ADSL status: Whether there is a problem with the line, or your username/password etc...

Steve

Edited: So that it actually reads correctly.

I've tried the 192.xxx.yyy. etc in the webpage to get to the setup but it just comes up with the webpage unavailable screen.

The interweb is working through my normal modem - hence using Scabbynet!

Hello

What does the manual say to do (i.e. what is the initial IP address of the router)? Have you got an IP address from the router on your computer? Sometimes the DHCP server isn't functioning correctly initially so you have to manually set your IP address to one that is in the range of the router.

Yes, When I enter the IP address for the router that came with the manual, the page not available screen is shown.

Hello

How are you connecting to the router? Wirelessly or via a cable? Can you 'see' the wireless network with the utilities that came with the router?

You can look at your IP address by clicking on 'Start' 'Run' type 'cmd' and then 'ipconfig'. What does it tell you?

The router is new?

Is the router new or 2nd hand? If 2nd hand it may have settings which mean you can't use it until a hard reset is done. For most routers, there is a pin-hole reset button on the back and with the power on you hold the reset button down for 10 seconds.

It's started working now after re-cycling the power.
