Default Has anyone changed to Sky Broadband

Hi all,

Thinking of migrating from PN to Sky and taking their Max offer; looks like a good deal. Has anyone had any good/bad experiences of their broadband service? It's early days I know, but the offer expires 20 or so days after they make it and you presumably go to the back of the queue.

I'm in the same position, at the moment I'm with Pipex (good service but dear). The free Sky Broadband isn't available at the mo but they've offered me a paid for service (I'm guessing they've brought an ISP?) for £17.99/month until such time as their other broadband service is available then they'll automatically switch me over to the medium package.

Was thinking the same.

Even emailed Pipex to find out what they could do to keep my business (I also have my phone with them)
They've emailed back requesting that I call them to "discuss the matter".....

Haven't done it yet though

As far as I know its not actually up and running yet, my mate signed up for the deal and is still awaiting confirmation of when it will be available, could be just our area tho.

I'm with Pipex and spoke to them about changing my deal, I could go on to their cheapest package and save a tenner per month but after being told I have to pay £60 to make the change I lost the power of (understandable) speech! I may ring back when (if) I calm down!

Anyone that's on Pipex and thinking of switching, don't forget to cash in your Pipex Xtra points before you cancel!

Yeah, everyone on Pipex gets points every month.
I've got 260 which means I can get 2x return flights to New York

Go to pipex.com, login with your primary account details and you should see a link to it.

You should get a mail from Sky when you can start the migration, with a limited time to take it up in the pre-registration round.

I got mine last week, and have finally extracted the MAC code from Eclipse today. Order goes in tomorrow.....

That's exactly what I got mate. It does look tempting, but one does wonder about switching to a new ISP!

Does anyone know anything about this wireless box you're supposed to get, presumably a router, but what brand??

Exactly, it would be nice to know the the spec of the router is.
I'm quite happy with my current router but can't see anywhere that says you can use anything other than the 'free' router from Sky.

The wireless router is a Netgear. You won't be able to use your old router as the Sky service is configuration free, what I mean is you plug in the router, it's recognised as a Sky router and you get service. Wireless encryption is turned on by default the key is on the base of the unit. Mine seemed to work just as well as my Linksys.

Nothing written on it, but I seem to remember it being a 54g.

Sky broadband IS being fitted .. has been for three weeks or so.. take up has been very good and there is, unfortunately , a waiting period... they bought out a company earlier in the year to provide ISP.. and piggy -back only on BT lines presently. so if you have telewest/cable etc lines .. dont bother .. they wont entertain the thought....
the routers are Netgear kit

It's in, it's (now) working , the DG834GT is a pile of cack that starts dropping packets when it gets warm and is going back .....

(and I am *far* from the only one with this issue)

Luckily there are ways and means to get around this....

moved to sky from Orange broadband (I work for Orange too!), staff package a joke at 12.99 so decided to move across to Sky. Had no issues, had Netgear broadband router before, now get a slick white Netgear router and it all works fine. No issues so far and saving £8 over joke of a staff offer.

After reading the stuff on this forum I am surprised people are still signing up. Sky customer service is worse than NTLs, and that really is saying something! Have not gone the Broadband route but can only imagine it being a whole world of pain, as some of the people using that forum (above) can testify to.
And what happened to FREE BROADBAND that I see advertised all over the place? Shouldn't they be sued over false advertising?
Complete Ar*es the lot of them...

Think there's a lot of ISP's struggling with Broadband, mainly because they are migrating customers to their own LLU networks and getting away from BT network.

I've been with Sky for over a week, router is fine, so it the access, touch wood.

oh that bit's easy ... getting the radius login username/password is a bit more tricky ( if you don't want to use the NG834GT )
