Default mac intel duo vs pc intel pentium IV

would a new macbook (not pro) 2.0ghz be a lot quicker than a mobile P4 1.6ghz?

like for instance, photoshop 7 on my laptop might take 15 seconds to do a filter. might the mac do it twice as fast? or faster?

I have to be careful about manipulating only one image at a time on my machine - it's sooo slow and irritating.

I have found the MacBook 2.0GHz to be stunningly fast, both in bootcamp running solely XP and running OS X. However the OS X version of Photoshop is not available in universal binary yet so it does run slower. (Actually runs slower than Photoshop running in a Parallels window).

When I say slow it is relative obviously.

Having tested both side by side certain functions in Photoshop are slower on the Intel based mac such as the initial opening of files likely to be due the the velocity engine on the G5 chip but once the file is open filters and effects were actually applied quicker on the Intel machine which was somewhat surprising and contrary to what we were lead to believe.

The next generation of PowerMacs will provide vast power with a true 64 bit Intel architecture

Yes, although you'll probably won't need to, it's not that slow.
