Not ties Email account - which one
I'm after an email account that is not provided by an ISP soley for the duration of the contract with them.
Is there such an ISP that will give you an email address (allow you to an email address) without ever connecting to their server...
Sorry if I am not explaining myself....
I'd like an email account (to use with Outlook express) that I can take from ISP to ISP (if and when I decide to change ISP's)
I don't want to be restricted to having my BT email address and then loosing it when I go elswhere.....
I've heard that you can have a Virgin email account and they allow you to use it indefinately..... with pop/smtp (using outlook or the like)
Do I make ANY sense ?
Example
I would like to use the Virgin.net account on BT broadband..... then if I choose to move to another Supplier i would like to keep the Virgin account and be able to send/receive with the new ISP....... and to the Next ISP etc...
Almost an email address fo life............ perhaps that is a better way of explaining it??
Many thanks in advance
Phil

Buy a domain name and POP3 mail box from someone like 123reg.co.uk
£6.10p for 2 years for the domain (.co.uk), £10 a year for the mail box. Has webmail and can be used with any email software.

What about gmail? You can view/send messages online, you can set it to forward messages via POP so you can configure your mail client to pick them up as well. It's independant of ISP as well.
If you need an invite, I've got plenty so drop me a PM with your email address.

It has other advantages. Like the address 'xyzinc@yourdomain.com' also come to your address - that way you can sign up to buy things and if you get spam to that address you know who its come from

Hello
As above, I recommened registering a domain and using the email attached to that. That way it doesn't matter which ISP you swap to, you'll email stays the same.
You can also have a meaningful email address (assuming you get the domain you want).

I have done that.
I can have as many 'first names' as I want and then send them to my domain name. So what I do when registering with websites, is to use the website name @ domain.com
for instance : scoobynet@mydomainname.co.uk or tesco@mydomainname.co.uk
so when I receive all of the junk mail, I can tell which site I originally used (so I don't buy from them any more)

Phew !!
Thanks !!
Didn't realise there were SO many options........
I've got a Hotmail account and have set that up to work with Outlook Express (Thought that facility was withdrawn - Ahwell )
I don't have a Gmail....... but don't suppose there's any harm in having one...
Also I Like the Idea of the domain thing............ will need to look into that a bit more (something I have yet to look at)
MANY thanks Guys !!
