Downgraded AOL
I downgraded my AOL connection from Gold 2Mbps £24.99pm to Silver 1Mbps £14.99pm - saving £10 a month
Doesn't seem to be making any difference to normal PC usage.
Takes a while haggling on 'live chat' but I got a new 12 month contract for £14.99 a month and a 'free router' (going on ebay probably )
Cheers
Mick

I've been with AOL since 14.4k and have never had to call them due to a disconnection.
I agree that their software is ****e and I wouldn't put it near a PC, but with a decent router I get full speed 24/7 and I mean 24/7 as I am a heavy user.
How many people can actually beat that ?
I have also tried cable/freeserve/BT business etc, and none come close.

Not 1 problem, don't use the AOL software, use my own modem/router, AOL modem went to my mate

no problem with aol even though they closed my account too soon and then charged me a fortune for a dialup connection. But hey once we're moved i might actually go back to them, though i may have lost my long standing customer privledges.
I would keep aol's little secret to ourselves

I'm with them on Silver too but hate their Welcome screen and associated crap that comes with it. How do you get rid of all that.?
Been with them 5 years and no probs at all.

I was a big fan of AOL back in the dial up days, connections that worked the world over and very reliable. Then they sussed that I wasn't doing any work for them any more and asked me to pay. Not sure what the service is like now

No problem with AOL connection at all... speed on Gold was far faster than I needed. That's why I downgraded to Silver. Got my free Netgear DG834G ADSL router too - i tried to trade for a wireless WG111 thingy - but they don't do those - so I said well send me the router anyway (already got one ) - anyone want a DG834G router before it goes on ebay
When you set up AOL broadband with a router - the only bit that has to connect directly to AOL is the router - it has it's own username and is logged in 24/7. The connections to other computers then are just network connections to the router for internet access.
Our main machine has a wired connection to the router and also has AOL software installed. The second machine has a wireless internet connection and no AOL software installed whatsoever...
It's up to you what you put on & the connection speed is lightning fast. I quite like the AOL Browser based in IE7 I guess with tabbed windows & stuff.
anyway as a 'normal user' I am very pleased with the AOL service - I know 'computer gurus' seem to like bashing AOL (& microsoft ) - but they both work fine for what I want
Cheers
