Default Mac users .. end of an era is approaching

Whilst not official its looking very likely the G5 based PowerMacs are going to be replaced very soon. We're strugglign to get stock and have no shipment dates for the hundreds of G5s we have on order.

We've seen huge demand for the last of the stock and with less than 200 in stock they'll be gone in a week or so. We've seen panic buying yet again on these !

Two big newspapers are trying to finalise orders for several hundred.

Whilst its a shame to see the G5s go I'm honestly excited at the impedning releases as I reckon this will be exactly what the market is waiting for.

I'll keep you updated as and when I know more but may have some exciting info tomorrow but don't hold me to it.

Ah, the end of an Era, no more PPC, no more Classic (yay!)

I can't wait to see what the new Mac Pro machines will be like. Doubt I'll get one though, but the dev team should be getting a couple, so I might get a chance to play, if I'm very lucky.

The might announce before WWDC and actually state they are released at the WWDC. That or it's the servers being announced, and then the pro towers are announced/released at WWDC.

some interesting ideas being bounced around re the case design of the macpro, new architecture inside, cards etc and a whole motherboard change.

sorry forgot to add, the other idea being mooted is that they will stay with the G5 enclosure for the first shipment and then change it for the next wave. I think this second idea has more merit because
a) they invested a hell of a lot of R&D in that case
b)the motherboard is very similar
C) keeps the cost down

looks like they may ship with two optical slots. though how many people actually populated their lower slots on the MD G4's ?????

Do 'professionals' need 2 optical slots? Why not just have a DVDRW? Do they need 2 or a deciated CDRW or even tape slot.

I think Markus hit the nail on the head. Expecting to hear servers first and desktops a week or so after. Fingers crossed they are all we are hoping for !
