LCD text/image quality

LCD text/image quality
Hi,
New to LCD's and just got hold of an oldish NEC 1810 19" LCD, which has a VGA input. The text quality is pretty dire except if I use a resolution of 1280x1024. Really I want to use 1024x768, but the image is ropey when doing so. Graphics are fine, its just the text.
So question is would using a DVI to VGA adapter make any difference in quality over using a straight VGA connection?
My vid card obviously has a DVi output as well as VGA.
Ta.

I've never seen that option either. Where exactly is it?
Note that LCD screens are really designed to run at a single resolution. If you run them at a lower res than they were designed for, then it is likely that you will get blurry text / graphics. The newer screens do a much better job of handling this, but some of the older ones were pretty dire...

I've got a couple of fairly new viewsonics, they seem to manage most resolutions without issue (quality wise). VP191s and VP2030B.

Ah clear type fonts and font smoothing disabled, that should help, thanks. Yeh Iain the native res is supposed to be 1280x1024, so guess I'll stick with that, as you say dropping it down does reduce quality badly.
Would using a DVi - VGA adapter improve things further though?

Possibly, but I doubt it would make much noticeable difference. All it means is that you'll be doing the conversion to analog on the cable instead of on the graphics card itself. I suspect the gfx card will do a better job, (although without trying it, I can't say for sure)...
