Preferably by folder or file size. I have 70GB of space,25 GB for music, the rest god knows where?

Have you tried clearing down you're Internet Explorer Temporary files?
Try using disk cleaner which comes as standard with XP. It will scan you're disk(s) and will guide you through removing any unwanted temp files.

Some applications could be taking up a bit of space. Try: Start -> Control Panels -> Add/Remove Programs. Then order the list by size. Then have a look at the "used" section. If you find there's a large app or two there that are used rarely or never, you could remove them to free up some disk space.

Here's the outcome. The system volume information is to do with system restore. Is there any way to reduce this folder?
The 30 gig is mostly music.
Sorry to be a pain, second question,is there a program that tells you if your pc is running correctly, ie speed/memory.
Thanks.

Your original post says you've lost 45gig and yet your system restore folder is only 4.3gig, what exactly is the problem?

Well 2 other things you can try:
Reduce the size made available for the recycle bin. Normally this is pre-set to use 10% of you're hard disk. I would suggest reducing this down. I have mine set to around 1%.
Run Disk Cleaner which is found by going into 'My Computer' -> Right Click C: drive choose 'properties' under the General tab you should see next to the pie chart graph the 'Disk Clean' button.

No-one's mentioned JDisk yet which I use now after trying most of the suggestions already on here. Nice and simple. Adds to context menu. Really helps me in finding those big folders that are buried in the drive somewhere...
