Default Xbox hard drive and latest software

Hello

I've just played musical hard drives, and now have a spare 'big' drive that I want to put in my Xbox. It's been about 2 years since I last did this so I have some questions!

Can I plug my Xbox hard drive into a spare IDE port on my PC and get the contents off? FTPing 40gb will take ages....

What is that latest CD for the Xbox? I had a delightfully named Firef*****r one from two years ago and haven't done any updates since then. Can anyone give me a link to a CD on Mininova or somewhere that has everything to format/install a new hard drive in the Xbox?

Thank you for your help,

Steve

Hello

I found the 'latest' software: "Auto Installer Deluxe V3.03". I'm just downloading it now.

You won't be able to get anything off the Xbox HD (if plugged into your PC) as the filesystem is formatted in such a way the PC won't understand it (FATX IIRC)

You can (as mentioned) run Avalaunch or FTP everything off it, before nuking it

Hello

You have to download the original ISO http://www.mininova.org/tor/214507 and then patch it to 3.03 http://www.mininova.org/tor/336025

Cheers, getting those now

How do you patch them, or is it just a case of extracting the iso, and copy the new files over

Hello

With the 3.03 patch there is a very helpful video by some Australian telling you what you have to do: Basically in the 3.0 folder there is a Tools directory and a utility that allows you to patch the ISO (AID Update utility).

This then updates the ISO that you can burn. The CD autoloads on the Xbox and even contains things like the latest EvoX Bios to flash your modchip.

I was suitably impressed.

forget these installers and ftp the latest files to your new HD. that way you have everything up to date.

Remember you may need to update your Bios depending on the HD size.

Hello

Yes ... it's just that I'm lazy and the installer prepares and formats the hard drive, let's you choose the dashboard and change all the network settings. Easy.

They are very good I agree. I used Slayer to set mine up when I did it but once done I got all the latest stuff from Xbins and ftp'd it to the Xbox.

the software has come a long way from 2 years ago.
