Writing to DVD?
I have a full DVD rip on my hard drive and the folder will play as a DVD.
How can I write this to a DVD as a backup - all attempts so far have failed. The furthest I got confused me as it created a file that was 1gb bigger than the files I already have! All I want to do is copy the files I have to a DVD.
Is there a way to do this so I can create my backup?
TIA
Rannoch

Ok then, follow this..
Guide to burning dvd files using nero
There are many programs which can burn VIDEO_TS folders to dvdr (TMPGenc dvd author, Record now max, pinnacle instant copy etc etc), but as nero is the most common burning app which most people have, this is what we will look at.
First of all, before we start ensure all of your dvd files (.bup, .ifo, .vob) are in a folder labelled VIDEO_TS, and you have a blank dvdr in your dvd writer.
Open up nero burning rom
1. Select DVD from the drop down box in the wizard
2. Select DVD-Video
3. Click New
4. In the file browser section, browse for your VIDEO_TS folder and click on it
5. In the far left window click on the red VIDEO_TS folder
6. Next, in the far right window, highlight all the dvd files by dragging the left mouse button over them all (only highlight the dvd files .bup .ifo .vob)
7. Right click on the highlighted files and choose 'copy to compilation'
8. You will now see all the dvd files in the VIDEO_TS folder represented here
9. The size of the compilation is shown here, it must not cross the red line or it will be too big to fit onto a dvdr
10. Click 'burn the current compilation'
11. Ensure the options 'write' and 'finalize dvd' are checked
12. Ensure the write method is 'disc at once'
13. Click Burn
You should now have a compatible dvd for use in your dvd player

Fantastic guide for new to Nero user - thank you
I am not sure if I am using a different version (Nero 7 Premium Trial copy) but the gist of what you describe works - but the menus are different/or I got the result in a different way!

I do an an interesting error with one of my files. I have an .avi file that is around 700mb that converts to a 3.1gb 'dvd' compilation and when I burn it every time it comes out and states too big for disk - enter a larger disk and retry!!
Other movies have automatically sized themselves to fit at around 4.37gb and burned really well.
Confused

Not tried it although when you use Nero 7 is accesses Nero Vision 4 for DVD encoding.
Is Nero 7 just a suite of all the Nero digital media tools?
In terms of the DVD write - got it down now - it is a DVD Recode in 7 - this keeps the existing DVD structure from my video_ts file.
Cheers,
Rannoch
