Default *****. Just dropped and FUBAR'd my Powerbook

Whoops!!!

I'd be angry if it actually meant anything in the grand scheme of things. It was in the bag (which I'd been using last night). I thought I'd sealed the bag up. Obviously not, as once I picked the bag up to take to work, and both my wife and I saw it tumbling towards the floor.

Powers up, but the LCD is FUBAR'd (broken mirror effect) - will firewire the data to my G5.

Insurance will hopefully replace the machine (already been ok'd - just need to wait for the assessor to pick it up) rather than repair it.

So, I'm looking at a new PowerBook. Hopefully a MacbookPro.... ideally. Will need to argue the case that the G3 Pismo PowerBook isn't available now, and the nearest comparison (like for like) is the MacBook (or the Pro )

Will be happy with either

Bugger

How does this usually work then - never claimed on my insurance before, as I'm normally very careful, or at worst pay for it out of my own pocket.

Would I be looking at a replacement PowerBook (write off mine) with an "new for old" or would they give me how much I paid for my Pismo "like for like"?

If it's new for old (going to push for this), what would be a respectable comparison? The G3 PowerBook was the top-of-the-range model when it was out. Would this mean I could milk it for a decent MacBook Pro?

My initial thoughts are not to take the p1ss, and just spec a MacBook....

Thoughts?
