how long ago were you upgraded? there is a 10 day period where BT run checks on your line to see the speed your line will take

My 10 day trial came and went (I'm with BT). According to the line check I go up-to 5.5Mb. But after the 10 day trial I am at 4Mb.

mine varies quite a bit. At peak times I am around the 3 meg mark but off peak a la 2am I can get a 6.5 ish meg (830k/sec) downloads. MAX is very rate adaptive mind you and if you have a noisy line, you wont see much difference in speed

from what I hear about Nildram they are a decent ISP

I got the upgrade about a weekj after it was available. For a few days it was evil until the rate settled down. BT estimated 4Mb and I was connected at 6.2Mb according to the router. But a couple of weeks ago it's started to behave like it is in the learning phase again. Anything from low 6 to mid 7 figures and 2 or 3 router reboots required each day to get a working connection again

Nildram have an open ticket for this issue. BT have admitted a problem with the BRAs and were expecting to fix by end of May but this doesn't appear to be the case yet.

Thanks for the info Kernel. Looks like I have jumped in at an early stage of development of the technology. I hope BT have this sorted.

when max settles on a speed, is that speed then set, or can it fluctuate between the "new" max and next to nothing?
or is this because of the bt problems?

my 10 days have been and gone also but i keep fluctuating all over the shop

if you connect through a router id leave it switched on for a while so BT can run tests at their discreation. Im sure though its always rate adaptive and will vary due to time etc so at busy times you may be back to the 2 meg mark

once the rate is set it should stay that way unless your line is breaking down in which case it will set lower
