DHCP Help Please
Hey everyone,
I have a bit of a strange one and need some help please.
I have a NT DHCP server (I know, our company is stuck in the dark ages) that is a PDC in its own domain.
For some strange reason after a power cut the server is no longer giving out IP addresses. If you manually specifiy an IP address for the client, everything is fine and you get normal connectivity.
There is nothing unsual in the event logs (both on the clients and the server). I have replaced the NIC, re-installed the TCP/IP stack, changed drivers, removed all services, re-installed all service packs, checked for viruses, re-created scope and created brand new scope all with the same effect.
I can't see what it would be and just wanted a second opinion.
I know DHCP is the issue as if I plug a dumb hub, my laptop and the server into the hub I get the error. Therfore it can't be any rogue DHCP server or switch issue.
Just for information the IP scheme is as follows
IP of Server 10.10.1.49
Subnet 255.255.0.0
Gateway 10.10.0.254
DNS Server 62.244.x.x (External)
Wins Server 10.10.1.49
Wins Type 0x8
Range 10.10.1.20-40 Subnet 255.255.0.0
I know we are using WINS and NT but I really have no option. The company isn't willing to put in the investment.
Please help!
thanks in advance!

bit confused about your choice of subnets... wouldn't a 24 bit one be better? (255.255.255.0)
Just looked at your default gateway - you'd need to set your subnet to 255.255.254.0 to accomodate that
Also,
reduce your lease time to say 3 days (or less) and run an ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew on a workstation and see what happens.
