Default Advice on Mac Mini

Looking to get something small for the purpose of connecting to my TV.

This mac mini fits the boat perfectly in terms of size.

However a couple of questions:

as mentioned i need it to connect to TV so i can watch certain things. The files that i watch are in RMVB or RM (real media)

Can i watch these file types on an apple? RMVB files are the only files i really watch.

Also i understad i can installl a secondary operating system ie windows. Can i run on this methodology as per a normal PC? ie run identically to a PC?

Hope someone can help as i have never used a mac platform.

Or if anyone can recommend something else that is small then please let me know.

Thanks

Bobby

For the Windows part of the question - yes it will just function as a normal PC. The bootcamp software is Beta but from reports I've read is stable.

Can you give me an exmaple of a RMVB file please, as I'll test it on my Mac here. I know there is Real Player for OS X so the RM files will play.

As jowl says, with bootcamp it'll boot up into XP and fucntion as a PC, so that's always one way to go if you don't want to use OS X, or it does not work as you'd expect.

If you want multi-channel sound, 5.1 or whatever, then check the new Intel based Minis can support this. This was not standard on the original version.

I have a shuttle - which I thought about changing into my Media PC.

But the Mac Mini is quieter and smaller. I intend to use front Row for the main part....but could boot into Windows if necesary and use a 3rd party media portal app.

I'm going Mac mini rather than shuttle. The only advantages of the shutte is a much larger hdd - but my storage will be Network based anyway.
