What version of the Mac OS are you running and what version of Safari do you have?

I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.6 and using Safari and I can go into my hotmail account and attach and send pictures with no problems at all.

If you have only just signed up for Hotmail then you might want to switch to Gmail (Google Email) instead, I've used that on the Mac and never had a problem with it.

FB - just use Firefox and the Gmail invite I've sent you, and stop moaning!

Bloody Mac users.

PS I'll try it on my Mini later and let you know how I get on

What problems do you have running later versions of the OS?

If at all possible get up to 10.3.9, there are various updates and changes, quite probably including safari, plus various other security updates which also update Safari, and I'm sure there is also a specific update to Safari as well, only available if you're on 10.3.9.

Enable the debug menu in Safari and you can fool websites into thinking you have IE. Not sure about v6 though..

I've got the debug menu enabled and there is a "Windows MSIE 6.0" user agent option so you should be ok. Though as said, the later versions of safari don't seem to have a problem.
