Default XP and Programmable gamepad??

I have been holding off updating my kids PC from 98 to XP as they use a Microsoft sidewinder gamepad that is not compatible with XP. (Microsoft & Microsoft incompatible ).

The kids still want to play their favourite games so I want to get them an XP compatible controller that you can programe the buttons on.

Does anyone use one at the moment?

Not too worried about cost, its my kids happiness at stake.

Have you tried loading the windows 2000 drivers (I think there available for that gamepad). In many cases you will find that these are ok.

I used Sidewinder pads (gameport version) with XP until I replaced them with Saitek P880. I had no issues at all. In fact XP auto-detected them IIRC.

Anyway, the Saitek pads are the best of the bunch TBH. I had 2 Logitech Dual Action pads, and both suffered from failed right sticks within 10 days of ownership!! I will never buy those again.

Saitek have recently released the P990 pad. It is very similar to mine, only has 2 buttons on each shoulder. I would go for it.
