Question DVD Write Speeds....

Bought some Infiniti DVD-r 16x discs the w/end and problem is Nero 7 is telling
me it can only write at 12x, IF i try 2 other types of 16x discs in (both infiniti)
Nero can burn at 16x !!

Got onto the supplier of the discs and they say its my burner/firmware or get
latest Nero updates or the MID on the disc??(whatever that means)
In both cases i have latest versions, surely its got to be disc related as my
burner writes other discs @ 16x.

Any ideas?

Hi Wheelwright.

It basically means that most types of branded discs can be burnt at the speed advertised. But it all depends on the manufacturer of your DVD burner drive. Most manufacturers ROMS inside of the burner will read the disc and recognise the speed it can burn at. Unfortunately when a manufacturer of disc brings out a different product, then the ROM inside of the DVD Burner may not recognise it properly, and may only allow tyou to burn at a slower speed. Thus you may need to update the database inside of the burners ROM by flashing it with a new database. To do this, you need to identify the make and model of DVD burner you have and go to their website for an update.

If it helps. Post up the DVD Burner you have and I will try and get you the link you need to download the file.

Okay it's either a A08/108BK which you should be able to get a nice patched firmware ROM from here:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1898

Or it's a A08XL which you can get patched firmware from here:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1899

Each one of these allows full x16 speed writing.

Enjoy.

***Please Note I cannot be held responsible if you knacker up your burner with any of these downloads, so please read the instructions carefully and take note of the disclaimers ***
