just stuck an Xecuter CE into my XBOX
WOW!!! what a difference. stuck in a 250 GB hard disk. have put the new Avalaunch BIOS on and using a network bridge(54G) i have network connectivity. can stream all my movies from my main computer in my bedroom to my big tv down in the living room as well as my mp3 and wma. the dvd2xbox application copys all games onto your hard disk and patches the file to run from the disk.
also bought the small plasma screen with a new front cover that gives me usb ports and switches for the bios banks as well as lights for HDD and network.
see here for some nice pictures.
Have to say i am well impressed. even did the soldering myself. fiddly but not impossible. just need my premium scart to arrive to get the better picture.

Hello
As above, I wouldn't use my Xbox if it weren't for the chip that allows me to play movies on it.
Have a search for all the utilities if you don't have them already.

I'll agree the xbmc is a great media centre, but it has been for the last 3-4 years. You're a bit behind the times
Also this quote is taken from another forum and is achieved using a pc, media centre and transcode360, no chip required. (incidently, transcode is written by the guy who layed the foundation for the original xbmc source code)
I have just retired my original XBOX! I have been working on getting this setup since I got my 360. I reinstalled media center onto my server over the last day and got it up and running. Today I intalled and watched divx, xvid, and ac3 5.1 encoded files today on my 360! I am very very very impressed and this works perfect.

If anyone can help me sort out my flashing Oo Er, i'd be appreciative.
I have an Xecuter 2.3 Pro all fitted, two blue leds inside and red (when off) and green (when on) on the front.
I am rapidly generating a pile of coasters now as I an't seem to burn the bios.bin file to a CD properly.
I have tried CD-Rs CR-RWs (running out) and DVD-Rs
I have tried with just the bios.bin file on the disc, tried with large files on the disc at root level, tried with large files in a called, tried upper case and lower case.
I am close to smashing the damn thing up.
When I stick the disc in it says No Bios Update Found... Halting.
I made the 1mb bios.bin file using Xecuter Boot Manager, loaded a 256k bios into the four banks and saved the file.
I just cant seem to find a definite 'follow these steps exactly and all will be fine' process.
HELP!

Hello
I found this slightly confusing as well. In the end though, I just burnt a CD-R (not RW as it wouldn't read that properly) with a bios.bin file and burnt away. You need to have a file that matches the partition on your chip though? So I have two 512kb ones for example (selectable by switch), so my bios.bin needs to be 512K.

what I dont get is the switch settings and how you use them, how do you boot using the bios in bank 1 or banks 2 & 3 etc.
I have managed to get the CD-RW working but now I know what FRAG stands for
Just found a printer cable and trying it that way, so far it seems 'better'

Well it sounds like you have flashed your chip Ok. Now you need to get a dashboard on there. You can do this buy using one of the discs with all the apps already on such as the Slayer disk. the other way is to load the dashboard up via a disc which will then allow you to ftp to your PC. Then you copy over the dashboard files to the Xbox HD and when you boot next time the dash will load.
I'll try and find you the tutorials when i get a chance. somebody else may be able to help.

Tut on how to get on to Xbins. also known as 'the usual place'
http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/xbins.php
Novice tuts.
http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/beginnersguide.php
How to create your EvoX boot disc.
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.p...T&f=16&t=89545
should get you going. As I once you have yourself FTP'd to your Xbox I'd made XBMC your dash.

Cheers, guys finally got everything working
Mike - The Xecuter 2.3 Pro comes with that, I did indeed end up getting it to work, had to remove my Mac G5 DVD drive, stick it in my prehistoric PC, then find a parallel cable then work out why it didn't work... Man what an absolute PITA it has been.
Getting there though
Any recommendations for replacement HDs? Will 250-300gb work ok?
I found a check sheet once with a compatibility chart but I'll be dammed if i can find that again!
