Email Sync between Desktop and Laptop
Hi All
I've recently got a laptop and it's becoming a pain that when I'm working on one machine I find myself needing to refer to email which is inevitably always on the other machine hence I want to sync them so they both swap email folders when they see each other on a network. I've set up a wireless ad-hoc network between the two as I couldn't figure out how to get them to see each other via the wireless ADSL router; this isn't ideal as I have to disconnect from the main network, but it'll do.
I'm using POP mail (isp is NDO) and currently Outlook Express on the desktop and Outlook on the laptop, though I'll probably switch to Outlook on the desktop too as I prefer it.
This link tells me how to keep incoming mail on the server after I download from one machine until I download it from the other, but it wouldn't work vice versa and wouldn't work with Sent Mail, so is there a better way?
Thanks in advance,
Ben

You need IMAP, that'll allow you to use a remote mail store as if it was local, on different machines. Unfortunately unless you have a separate server to act as the IMAP server, you'll have to set one of your machines up to be the server and leave it on when you access mail from the laptop.

Set the Outlook setup to leave the mail on the server for 1 or 2 days rather than delete it once collected
then when you turn the other machine on it will download it as well
Works for me

Why are you sticking your tongue out at me? Your solution sucks, not least
because cc'ing yourself doesn't constitute a "sent items" folder
You need IMAP dude!

I use SysSync to copy the Outlook data folders to the laptop. This allows you to have all the emails etc available for info or referral, which is OK provided you do not want to use the laptop to access new emails or send them.
Works for me, but not the ideal solution for everyone.

Thanks for the replies.
So if I used IMAP or Exchange would I need the desktop/server switched on and networked to enable email access for the laptop or do I POP3 as usual and sync at a later date? Any good tutorials around?
