Default USB 2.0

Will a USB 2 device run on a normal USB connection, I know it will be alot slower but will it run?

I've got a laptop and when i ran a Belkin USB 2 hub it kept crashing the computer so hence i can't run USB 2.

I'm looking at buying an external hard drive to free up the laptop and the ones i like (WESTERN DIGITAL - 80GB PASSPORT PORTABLE HARD DRIVE) run off of USB 2

Cheers

It should run OK as all USB 2 devices are backward compatible with USB 1

Depends. Some devices will only run USB 2 only and hence may not be compatible with USB 1 or USB 1.1 PC ports. Maybe worth checking for any updated USB drivers for your PC. And also check the manufacturers specs. before buying an external device for backwards compatibility.

I've got a USB2.0 external hard drive and run it off a USB1.1 port - the only problem is the annoying message telling me it would run better off a USB2.0!

Depends on the device. Some peripherals require the extra speed of usb2 (video capture devices for example), and so they have it built into their hardware / drivers that they will only function with a usb2 port. having said that, 99% of devices probably will work ok (although slower)...

I have a usb 2.0 hub, plugged into a sub 2.0 pci card...

now for some reason when i plug stuff in to the 2.0 slots, they register on the pc, they show up in my computer, but not when you do an explore style file transfer session , which is the method i always use.

it used to show stuff up but now dosent
