We've been told that the 'final' version will be release in November, but it's software, so that'll be sometime between November and 2008

With the DRM that vista has running through its veins and the HD monitor requirement why would anybody want to bother with it ?. Doesn`t even merit a second glance as far as I can see after having had a quick play with it.

Are you sure you don't mean 5308?

Minimum requirements aren't yet known as they've not finished optimizing it. I would guess 1GB with a modern 3d graphics card to run it well.

Had this (5308) running today on a Sempron 3300+ CPU, 1GB DDR and GF6200 VGA.

It was far from slick.

Not sure if it was down to the average system spec or the actual build but after a quick play I wasn't impressed.

There should be a publicly-available Community Technology Preview available in April, apparently, for those who aren't official testers yet want to try it out.

Started to evaluate it for work, integrating it with an AD domain was a needlessly involving job. Mid you, that was with RC-1 (IIRC) so it may have improved on later builds. Given that most of our desktops need over 1Gb of RAM to run our apps properly on XP Pro, I'm in no rush to roll Vista out.

build 5308 on a optiplex P4 2.8 1Gb cant remember what built in gfx its got, but nothing fancy. Working fine apart from not all websites support the IE7 tabs so it does weird things. Also some strange date/time errors. And some other oddities as well...

Hello

Well, having got 5308, it crashes upon installation. Not a good start, so I think I'll wait!

Hmmm, looks like some dodgy video put together by a rabid mac fan who will stop at nothing to try an belittle the MS operating system regardless of whether it's any good or not.

Personally, I'm going to wait for the final release (you can't tell too much from betas) and maybe evaluate it on a spare machine for a while before I switch over.
