have you tried logging off then logging back on again? - it usually works for me + its a hell of a lot faster then fully restarting the PC.

I take it "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew" from the command prompt doesn't work?

You could also try a nbtstat -RR just in case as well.

Had the same problem, but not cable broadband. Very frustrating, finally sorted by changing the modem.
No problems since - touch wood!

Most ADSL routers/modems have a timeout function if no activity is seen on the line, but you can change this by setting the value to zero on most models.

Okay to use the ipconfig and nbtstat commands do the following:

Left Click 'START'

Left click 'Run'

in the Run box type: cmd and then press return

You should have a new window appear.

Now type c: and press return

now type either of these commands:

ipconfig /release press return

ipconfig /renew press return

or failing those 2 commands then do a :

nbtstat -RR press return.

Now re-try your internet connection.

If you have a 10mb connection and a Terryon modem then you need to contact NTL and get them to change your modem. The Terryon will not work at upto 10mb conn speeds
