Question Region 1 DVD's!!

OK hopefully one of you guys will be able to advise on this one

As everybody knows we run on region 2 DVD's here and everywhere else on different other regions!!

My problem is this.... I'd been looking for a movie for quite some time (ie for it to be released in the UK) until recently when I effectively realised that if it hasn't by now then it never will

So off I go and source it from a place in Canada who very kindly post it to my good self for a small some of money

So my problem is this..... main DVD player in lounge is fixed to region 2 (as you would expect), so it ain't gonna play it. My PC is set to Region 2 also BUT will allow me to change the region 1 more time, but once this has been done it won't change again (according to the warnings)!!!!

So a couple of Q's....

1) Is there a piece of software that I can use on my PC to rip the DVD from Region 1 and re-write it to a blank disk on either Region 2 / free without changing the PC-DVD to Region 1?

2) Failing that... anybody know if there is a firmware fix for either a TDK 440N or a TDK 1616N that will allow me to change the region setting without it locking up permanently?

Cheers

Andy

EDITED TO ADD: I don't "think" that there is a Copyright issue involved here as I own an original copy..... but who cares anyway

You could use DVDShrink to rip and make it region free.

I think DVD Decryptor will remove the region coding - It also removes the anti-copying stuff too - I used it when transferring DVD to PSP takes a while but works a treat.

Try looking for a hadset hack for your main dvd player. Post the make & model up and I'm sure someone here will know where to look.
