Default anyone still playing text based pc adventure games?

if so, can you recommend one for a bit of nostalgic gaming?

Just started reading the Warlock of Firetop Mountain to my 2 boys, and getting quite into it, so reckon a bit of text based pc adventuring might be next

Keep your eye out for 'The Lost Treasures of Infocom'. Over 30 classic text adventure games There's a copy sat on my shelf at the moment, but you ain't having it

Actually mine is the 'Masterpieces of Infocom' which is a combination of the two Lost Treasures collections

Ahh this takes me back to happy days....Colossal Adventure, Lords of Time (my fave - jump in the grandfather clock & go back/forwards in time)

Would happily play them all over again.

Ahhhh! Infocom - those were the days!! However, they're a bit of a pain to set up for modern XP Machines.... and with FDDs going out of the door, they become more difficult still.

Anyone know of a good "vintage Games" community which deals with such matters. I'd [i]love[\i] to try to shoot down the starglider again!

Cheers,

Phil

I was playing the original Alone In The Dark the other day, in MS-DOS v6.22!

Not a text only adventure, but a pioneering adventure game anyway.

Phil, mine are all on one legitimate CD and from what I can remember, they weren't much hassle to setup under XP (although my memory is fuzzy these days ).

Well over 100,000 responses from Google for Frotz. This looks like a brilliant place to start

Looking into it now...

My first multiplayer text adventure was called AMP on the PSS (packet switch stream network) back in '83 using my Prism VTX5000 modem (1200/75 baud) on my trusty spectrum.

Thumbs down

Links from your link don't work for me Steve - just put up a non-functioning page! I was intrigued by "Zork, the great undiscovered Underground Empire", which I don't recall as being a subtitle for any of the 5 "Zork"-entitled games of which I'm aware.

My "Frotz" link (above) worked perfectly and I have a ful set mounted on my Laptop.....

Cheers

Phil
