How do i test the speed of my internet conection

PC Luddite here - but if you right click Connected Icon in lower task bar you have STATUS option which states connection speed??? Mine is 2.2 Mbps but I haven't a clue if this fast or slow!!

On my Windows XP it is bottom right of screen. A couple of Screens (next to a whole pile of other small icons like Antivirus, Sound, Time etc)

Takes readings from different destinations and not just from your pc to the test site.
One reading is pretty much pointless as so many factors affect your connection like contention, your load, server load, routing etc.
Run it a few times over a week at different times and you'll get a good picture.

It is a tad biased to the US though, so might not give the best results to someone in the UK.

with 2 meg you should be looking at 230k/s downloads and 30k/s ish uploads. They are max-ish speeds and speeds will vary depending on website and conditions etc
