CPU
Currently have an Intel 845WN 478 socket with a P4 1.7GHz.
What is the max I can put on the board, will I notice a great deal of difference and is the 478 pin important.
Machine has 2 256Mb
Sorry for what seems a bunch of idiot questions but any help appreciated.
Cheers
Nick

look at your m/b manual or find it on the Intel website it'll tell you there.
Yes Socket 478 is the importmant bit, you can only upgrade with 478pin CPUs. M/Bs are grouped as Socket A, 478, 939 etc so only a 478pin CPU with a 478 M/B

May need to check your BIOS revision also before upgrading:

Thanks for the BIOS advice have undated this.
Have searched for a 2.6 CPU and there appears to only be 2 on ebay none via PriceRunner or DealTime. Would I be better to change the Motherboard so I have a wider selection of CPU. Would this have any knockon effect regards the rest of my system having to be updated.

probably is best from the type m/b, all depends on what you want it for, its all to easy too get sucked into the latest stuff - its an endless cycle of upgrading. theres a number you can choose from on ebuyer/dabs
If you do change your m/b, youll need to change at least your graphics card & ram
