Default Avast V AVG

Apologies for yet another Anti-virus thread.

I've been using AVG for a while now (free Edition) and never had a problem - to my knowledge. If I've been suspicious of downloaded files, I've checked them with AVG and it has detected virus' in some of them.

But recently on here I've heard some bad comments on AVG. I ran Housecall on-line scanner and it seemed to detect a Trojan - though I'm not convinced it was 100% correct - maybe a false positive.

Anyway, I've just installed Avast and it's detected a Trojan too - albiet in system restore files.

After all that, I'm asking for any comments on Avast and opinions on detection rates, false positives etc.

Cheers,

J

Went with Avast after AVG missed a trojan. Avast seems more complicated - but got better reviews so I went with it.

been using avast for a couple of months now - just purchased the professional version - a lot better than NIS and the zone alarm product for me. Only issues was with newsleecher, but I managed to fix that. Overall a good product.

Thanks for your replies.

I have AVG on my laptop still but will trial Avast on my main desktop. So far, it picked up a trojan on the initial scan and everything else appears clear. Also seems pretty fast at Scanning too.

Avast is far better, AVG seems to miss lots of things.

And when avast does find a virus its great! You get a nuclear warning siren and "WARNING A VIRUS HAS BEEN DETECTED" plays out of your speakers
