Windows XP Reboot
Is there anyway that i can reboot my system back to standard again ??
I know how to do the backup discs so thats ok.
My system is running very slowly & i have tried spybot & BT's own scan, but there seems to be a pest stored deep in the system.
So i felt that a reboot would clear out all the ghosts & i will install Nortons or another well known virus killer from the start.
Any ideas ??

TBH you would really need to do a fresh install.
If however, you suspect you have a virus/malware, then first off you could download the demo of Kasperky's Antivirus. It has a great scanning engine and should find any virus you may have.
Worth a shot before reformat.

If you have the XP disk, throw it in the tray, reboot the system.
Enter the bios (usually by pressing F2 or Del when prompted) and set the CD Drive as first boot device.
Save and exit.
The XP Install should now load. Follow the onscreen instructions. Should take 30-60 mins, depending on the computer.
When it prompts you as to where you want to install to, there is an option to delete the current partition. Do this, then install on the unpartitioned space. XP will set it up as needed.
EDIT - If you do this, be aware you lose ALL saved data!!!
Also, if your disk does not have Service Pack 2 pre-loaded, I would suggest you either download it before you reformat or get hold of a cd with it on. SP2 is essential to prevent you getting a virus when going online.
Also, have a AV software ready to go too.

You could try a 'System Restore'.......
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
....and see if you have one near when your system was first installed.
This may or may not help.
I would really suggest that you get and run the Kaspersky demo. Especially seeing as you have not got the XP disc.
Btw is it XP Pro or Home?
