Default Networking an Xbox 360 to the PC (streaming of AV)

Hmm - this is the one thing I haven't set up yet, and what a pain in the a$$ it is too

Basically got my XP sp2/.net & Windows Media Connect installed.

WMC "sees" my 360 and I have set up my shared folders.

On the 360, I press the Media Centre button on the remote, then click on "ok"

Get the "checking network" sign, followed by -

"your console can't obtain an IP address from your DHCP server."

Not suprising really, as I've given it a static IP

Click on Network settings and "Test Media Connection"

Network adapter - wired
IP - Confirmed
Computer - Failed

What do I have to do to get the computer bit to "pass" - seems like this is the only bit holding my streaming/PC connection up.

I have a feeling it might be my router, but not sure. Also running Windows firewall too - but have followed the FAQ instructions to allow the ports (however, couldn't find the one file from the "Ehome" folder in "C:/Windows"

Any advice would be extremely helpful!!!

Dan

i think you need a new pc with microsoft media center installed. you can not get it separately. see here
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/m...r/default.mspx
with media connect you can only share pictures and music.
hope this helps.

the xbox.com forum might be a better read than here.

I don't have a clue how I did it but after the media connect install, my 360 streamed music and pics from sp2 without me touching a thing.

ok
I'm not going to install Media Centre!

There must be a simple way of getting the 360 to access the PC

Will also have a look @ xbox.com

Any other ideas?

As mentioned, you can't use the Media Centre Button, but you can access photos and music via the dashboard.

Assuming you've got files shared in WMC and WMC can see your XBox360, you're most of the way there. Try accessing the files through the dashboard, not by going into 'Media Centre'. Try turning off your firewall temporarily to see if that helps, did for me

Mine took a little fiddling and all works now. Only annoyance for me is that WMC is using 97Mb of RAM

Plenty of help here: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showforum=167

I had the exact same problem....after hours of trailing through the various forums to no avail my fix was a simple one.

I had two IP addresses on my PC. Once I removed the one on a different network it all kicked into life.

Hope you have the same luck.
