by the sounds of things you may need to press the button on the laptop to enable the wireless card in it. Should have a radio symbol. Please advise if thats not the case. Also if not what router and laptop is it?

quite often the wireless switch is a function key. hold down the blue F key and press the key with a ariel symbol on it.
Thats if there is one,
some laptops have a switch on the sides or front edge.

I was looking at someones Packard Bell centrino laptop yesterday !
In control panel network connections, click on configure next to the adaptor, it goes into the config screen for the wireless network and there is a big wireless off/on drop down box ! make sure its on!
Also go into the belkin router, with the laptop wired into it, make sure the wireless security settings are correct on both, and also make sure you turn off the turbo speed settings in the wireless bit ! this was the only way i could get it working ! this was also on ntl with a belkin router with print server in it !
